Initiatives to Reduce Environmental Impact
Reduction of exhaust emissions in transportation
By operating trolleybuses and shuttle buses in popular tourist destinations such as Okinawa and Hawaii, we are enhancing the convenience of travel for our customers and reducing the increase in exhaust emissions caused by the use of rental cars.
EV tuk-tuks have been introduced at hotels on Kumejima and Miyakojima Island in Okinawa Prefecture and for sightseeing in Bangkok, Thailand, to promote reduction of exhaust gas emissions from transportation. In Thailand, we are aiming to introduce EV vehicles for airport transfers and for sightseeing in cities other than Bangkok.

Working Toward a Sustainable Future
Investing in the SAF sector to create a sustainable travel future
HIS is an investor in the UNITED AIRLINESVENTURES SUSTAINABLE FLIGHT FUND, which was established by United Airlines to focus on research and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). HIS will continue to offer sustainable travel products such as United Airlines-designated sustainable tours.
Earth-friendly stratospheric space travel for sale
HIS invested in Space Perspective in September 2023 to handle stratospheric space travel. Neptune, which flies by "Space Balloon™" technology, is the world's first balloon spacecraft that can go to space in a carbon-neutral way. The flight to the stratosphere will not be weightless and is open to all adults. Qualita is the official distributor in Japan.

Paper reduction in the travel business
HIS is using FSC®-certified copy paper, which protects forests, and is promoting the use of paperless paper for various internal applications and documents electronically, as well as at meetings. We have a system in place to monitor the amount of copy paper used by each department and are working to foster awareness of the need for a paperless office. Copy paper consumption at HIS in FY2023 was about 66.7 tons, a reduction of about 79.5% from FY2019 before the Corona disaster.
In travel brochures, we have improved customer convenience by developing digital brochures that can be viewed on the web, and by promoting optimization to reduce excess inventory, we achieved a reduction of approximately 75% in FY2023 compared to FY2019. We have also been digitizing the documents we deliver to customers, and from November 2023, we are digitizing the travel itineraries for package tours (we also deliver them in written form upon request).
We will continue to promote the paperless system to improve customer convenience as well as to reduce the burden on the natural environment.
Reducing Plastic Product Consumption in the Travel Business
HIS has promoted the reduction of plastic product use by eliminating plastic bags given to travelers participating in tours and changing from plastic bags for home delivery to paper bags, resulting in a reduction of approximately 78.5%, 5.5 tons in FY2023 compared to FY2019.
Propose a trip to learn about the environment and sustainability
Ecotourism
Based on the concept of "travel that charges the senses," in which you experience and learn about the nature, history, and culture of each region, and feel the land you visit by interacting with local people, we have established a specialized desk to provide experience-based tours such as trekking, environmental protection, and community exchange.
We also offer carbon offset plans that allow you to offset the CO₂ emitted from your tours.
Group Travel for Sustainability
We offer group tours that consider sustainability for companies, organizations, and educational institutions. In addition to travel plans that incorporate airlines, hotels, and destinations that promote sustainable initiatives, we also provide learning opportunities about the SDGs before the trip and hands-on programs to learn about the SDGs during the trip.
